Five Strand Plait

·      Start by splitting the hair into equal strands
·      Hold strands firmly with all fingers
·      Name strands from left to right 1,2,3,4,5
·      Starting from 1 put over 2 and under 3 and leave
·      Then repeat from 5, over 4 and under 3
·      Look to check if the last strands went over or under and repeat until finish
·      Tie with a band and reshape with fingers, pulling gently

Eleven strand Plait

·      Start with a 5 strand plait
·      Leave two sections either side free (sections enough for two 3 strand plaits)
·      Start plaiting one side into a 3 strand plait
·      Plait twice and then create a loop with an outer strand from the 5 strand plait
·      Pull the strand from the 3 strand through the 5 strand plait
·      Continue this process until the bottom of the plait
·      Repeat on the other side
·      Pull the plait with fingers to loosen the strands

Weave Plait

This plait is very similar to the process of the five-strand plait, but more like a five strand French plait, as each time more hair is added, creating a woven basket effect in the hair. This look is great for editorial, catwalk and even bridal.

·      Start with a five strand plait, only starting the plait
·      After plaiting from each side once, add a strand of hair from the outside
·      Each time a strand is added there will be more hair for each strand to be woven
·      Once all the hair is added after repeating this process all the way down, weave the rest of the hair between al the strands
·      To at the end and the length of the plait can be wrapped into a bun or pinned into the hair

This hairstyle can get very confusing, so much concentration and patience is needed. I didn’t have enough so this is a picture of Lottie’s demonstration

Smooth Chignon Adding Jewellery

Chignon

A really easy but pretty hairstyle to create.

  •       Brush the hair into a low pony tail at the nape of the head
  •       Gently backcomb the top section of the pony tail to create thickness
  •       Roll the hair from the tip upwards, so the backcombed hair is on the inside of the bun
  •       Pin into place with grips
  •       Part the hair so there are no gaps or hollow spaces

Adding Jewellery

Adding jewellery is great option to build on a hairstyle to get a interesting look, especially catwalk and editorial. A good way to build a collection of hair jewellery is to keep broken accessories.

Adding Accessories

  •       Once jewellery is selected, examine the hairstyle and play with a few different placement
  • options
  •       Once the placement has been chosen, secure the first anchor point with a hair slide or pin
  •       Then go a long securing at each point necessary
  •       The hair style must be secure for a runway and shoot with much movement
  •       Hair nets can be used to help
  • jewellery looks nice fitted along plaits and twists
  • brooches and fabric are also good options for accessorising hairstyle

Here is a broken string of costume pearls; I think this look would be great for a bridal. I used grips under the chignon and pins above and around the sides to secure into place.

This shell look was an elastic bracelet that fit round the bun and could be pinned for extra hold. This would be nice with a texturized chignon for a beach look.

This is another bracelet, they fit really nicely around the bun.

This broken necklace worker very well for a who look.
