Smooth, Sleek Hair
Smooth and sleek hair is a timeless catwalk look. It is
really good for the runway and also editorial looks. It looks fresh, clean and
incredibly chic.
Smooth blow-dry:
A great way to get a sleek look is by starting with a
smoothing blow dry. When washing the hair is good to use a shampoo specifically
for smoothing and helping the hair shine, and conditioner is a must. With a
look with zero volume, conditioner can be used not only on the mid lengths and
ends but also on the roots too, this will help the hair look glossier from root
to tip.
When preparing to blow dry, its always good to give the hair
a blast to remove the excess moisture, then a smoothing serum and heat
protector spray can be added.
The best brush to use whilst blow drying is a paddle brush,
as this gives a large area for the hair to be smoothed down, but its crucial
that the nozzle does not touch the hair like a thermal brush, there are no
vents so a gap should be left between the hair and nozzle to prevent the hair
singeing.
The nozzle should also be pointing downwards at all times,
so the cuticle is smoothed down, creating really shiny, smooth hair. If the hair is blown in all directions, the
cuticle would become ruffled, which
would result in a more tousled look.
Straightening hair
- Always use heat protector
- Use comb to section hair for clean sections
- make sure the sections are thin, so an over all even straighten
- Use a comb when straightening the lengths
- Don't stop and tug with tools, make sure hair is brushed thoroughly
- Don't stop in hair as it leaves marks
- add serum as a finishing product to smooth hair down and give gloss finish
Slick back silhouette
This is a
simply hairstyle to create for fashion, a really effortless look that’s perfect
for catwalks. These looks are great for fashion as it takes the hair off the face
for a really clean look, the makeup can be seen perfectly
- Start with taking a large square section on the top of the head, from the hairline to the crown and pin
- Then take two sections from the side of the head, from the hairline to just behind the ears
- Pull one side section back, combing smoothly to the head and pin securely at the back
- Repeat on the other side, overlapping the hair and pin securely
- Pull down the top section and smooth back
The hairstyle
can be left like this and finished with serum and hairspray on a comb, or a
plait could be added.
High Pony
Tail
When
creating a high ponytail for fashion, the placement is really important. If for
an editorial or catwalk show it needs to follow either the cheekbones or eye
contour to give a elegant, sleek look. If the hair is brush up the sides of the
head rather than back it can look really tacky.
- Start with straight hair that is brushed
- Brush hair back starting at the forehead
- Pick up the hair in sections after brushing into the hand, from the forehead move to mid section of the head
- Finishing by brushing up section from the nape
- One the hair is all in a firm grasp, brush the hair to smooth down
- Follow this again with a comb
- Once the placement (at crown of the head) is found and hair is smoothed back, tie with a hair band
- Spray a comb with hair spray and gently flattens and smooth over, focus on baby hairs
If you have
a model with very thick long hair, bungees can be used as a easier method to
tie the hair, they can be wrapped around the hair instead of having to pull the
whole length through the band a few times
Also long
hair can be put into a high pony tail by leaving the front section out,
following the steps above and then adding in the last section and tie a band
again and repeat the smoothing process.
If the hair
is thick and heavy, a further hair band can be added about and inch and a half
after the first band, this creates more of a horses tail look with lift and
shape, which creates a great silhouette for shooting.
